El Rancho y el año nuevo.

When it was time to leave we left walking down the same road we came up. We hitch hiked (it's a really small community) and one of Maetzin's mom's uncles picked us up and dropped us off in town.

This is Maetzin's incredibly tall french uncle Jean Pierre, taking a siesta in the cowboy hat that he bought when they went to a rodeo and dance down in the nearest town.

There were also sheep. Including two babies!

And then there were puppies... There were 6 puppies at the grandparents house. They were super cute! This is me and Maetzin with one of them.
Another day we went on a walk up the road from the grandparent's house and we found more ranches.

After hiking for about an hour and a half we arrived at this waterfall, which was down in the valley that you could see in the previous picture.

One day after comida (the main meal) me, Maetzin, her uncle and his two kids went on a hike. This was the view while we were still a ways up, this was still close the the grandparent's house.

Then we pressed it with this wooden tortilla press that you see in the middle. And we cooked them on this clay stove.

After that Conchita added water and kneaded it until it was just the right consistency. Then we used this about 200 or 300 year old stone slab to grind it down even finer, while at the same time separating just enough to make one tortilla each time.

Then, after cooking the corn for just a little while, we ground it up.

The second day me and Maetzin helped make tortillas. The first thing that happened was Teodoro and Maetzin's cousin Cézar went out and gathered the corn from their corn field.

This is me with Maetzin's Grandparents, Teodoro and Conchita.

This is the view from their yard. Pretty cool huh? All around their house was woods with a few houses speckled along the dirt road that runs past their house.

After my dad, Lori and Gunnar left I took off to Mexico City. From Mexico City I went with Maetzin and her family to her grandparents ranch, which is a little bit south of Mexico city. We spent about 4 days there and it was sweet! This is the grandparents house. We slept in the brown building in front of the house, it was a little cold.
