Los Túneles

If you want to go down into the tunnels from the center of town, you can take one of the staircases leading from the main level to down under the city.

I took this picture inside of one of the many tunnels of Guanajuato.

Actually this is where I catch the bus to my house from el centro... It's not as creepy as it might seem.

Hm...

I'm pretty sure that this pollo (chicken) isn't as feliz (happy) as the company claims...

but the boy that's eating him seems to be.

La Basilica, Teatro Juarez y El Pípila

El Pípila: Supposedly during the Mexican fight for independence a group of Spaniards had barricaded themselves in a 2 story building in Guanajuato (the Alhóndiga) built out of solid stone blocks and with only two large wooden gates for entrances. They were killing any one attempting to get any where near the building, finally after many failed attempts, Pípila (nick name) a worker in the mines of Guanajuato, along with a couple of other men made it to the building and set fire to the Alhóndiga, winning the battle in Guanajuato. The Pípila statue was build in honor of Pípila, it stands along the panorámica high above the city.

This is the Bacilica de Guanajuato.

It's the biggest church in Guanajuato.

This is Teatro Juarez (Juarez Theater).

It's in the main center of town and there are always tons of people hanging out on the steps.

This is a more close up picture of el centro. Also you can see where Teatro Juarez is, it's the building on the middle right with the statues lined up across the top. There are always tons of people in el centro, people just hanging out or meeting there.

This is the center of town looking down from Pípila. You can see the university, la basilica, and el centro, which is the green triangle formed by trees.

Narrow roads and pathways run up the hill sides between the houses.
It's not uncommon to see houses painted in bright colors.

These pictures are of Guanajuato city from the panorámica.
The panorámica is a road that runs all the way around the outside of town.
The big white building with the cool windows in the center of the top picture of the city is the main part of La Universidad de Guanajuato.
